A Plea for Prayer

Hello Friends and Family,

We are writing to give you an important update on our adoption process for our son from Haiti and to ask for your support during a critical time. The past few months have been overwhelming, and we wanted to share where things stand.

A Critical Hurdle with the Government

In February, we submitted our application to the U.S. government for our son’s adoption acceptance. In March, we received a request for evidence regarding a discrepancy with our son's identification paperwork. This required us to go back to the Haitian government for more information, which we received and submitted in June.

Unfortunately, a few weeks ago, the U.S. government determined this information was insufficient. We now have less than three weeks to submit more details and paperwork to show that due diligence has been done. Getting the necessary documents from Haiti in this short timeframe will be incredibly difficult. This is a critical deadline that could determine if we can move forward with our adoption.

An Unexpected Agency Change

On top of this, our adoption agency, All God’s Children International, informed us in June that they were ending their Haiti program. We had just 30 days to find a new agency to take our case. Thankfully, we connected with Nightlight Christian Adoption. They have been a true blessing, bringing deep expertise and passion for Haitian adoption to our case since we transferred in July. They have been a blessing through this difficult time.

Where We Are Now

These challenges have delayed our reunion with our son and introduced the heartbreaking possibility that, despite our best efforts, the U.S. may not approve his adoption. It is agonizing to know that this process is punishing our son, who is waiting in an orphanage for his family.

To give us the best possible chance, we have hired an international adoption attorney to represent us and build the strongest possible case.

How You Can Help

We know that prayer and community are powerful tools that God uses. We would be so grateful if you would join us in praying.

Please pray for:

  • Responsiveness: That the government agencies in Haiti will act quickly to provide the evidence we need.

  • Favor: That our response to the U.S. government will be seen as complete and sufficient.

  • Hearts: For our hearts and our son’s heart to be protected during this painful and prolonged separation.

  • Faith: For us to continue to trust in God’s providence when we cannot see the path forward.

A Note on Finances

Hiring an attorney was a necessary step, but it has brought a significant, unexpected cost. We are committed to doing whatever it takes for our son, but this has stretched us financially. If you feel led to give, any support toward these legal fees would be an incredible blessing. You can give a tax-deductible gift through Lifesong to our adoption process, or through any of the other means on our giving page.

Thank you for being part of our story and for your continued love and support. It means the world to us. Through it all, we continue to trust in God, and know that He is working all things out for good.

3 When I am afraid,
I put my trust in you.
4 In God, whose word I praise,
in God I trust; I shall not be afraid.
What can flesh do to me?
— Psalm 56:3-4
